Alaska Hunting Information

Below you will find our recommended gear list. It's always a good idea to remember that Alaska's weather during hunting season is often wet and cool so we don't recommend cotton or down-filled clothing. Synthetic or wool clothing is strongly recommended. Whether you bring an internal or an external frame pack depends on what and how you are hunting and if you will have a guide. If you are going on a guided hunt or have someone who will pack out most of the sheep, you may be okay with good quality internal frame pack of 2,000 to 5,000 cubic inches. For more details, consult your hunting partner, guide, or one of our Books  Remember when choosing your gear that you will have to pack at least one day's gear on your back, so choose the lightest gear that will do the job. Specific items we recommend are:  Ridge Rest™ or Z-Rest™ sleeping pad; Worsterlon™ shirts; Sporthill XC™ pants; synthetic vest, coats, hats and gloves with a windstopping layer; high bulk orlon Thorlo™ socks; Thermax, Coolmax, or Capilene liner socks; Thermax or Coolmax briefs; Danner™ leather/Goretex™ boots; and Helly Hanson Impertech™ rainwear.
